The Deshbandhu is a large Hindi regional newspaper with a track record in covering social and environment issues. It is based in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, produces editions also from Bilaspur,Bhopal,Jabalpur and Satna. Raipur is the capital of the new Chhattisgargh State and the biggest city in the region. Twenty kilometres away is Bhilai, the site of one of India's major public sector steel plants built in the 1950s and early 1960.

Steve no longer works at SHIFT but continues to work in independent community production as a freelance director, editor, cameraman and trainer.   He is currently (2007) working on a production about life in the refugee camps in Gaza. The film follows the experiences of a group of teenage dabka dancers on a tour of the north of England.
